Children (PreK - Gr5)
We welcome you to our faith formation and religious education ministry for children in grades pre-k through 5. We request that preschool children be 3.5 years old and be toilet trained.
Rooted in guidelines from the Archdiocese of Seattle, we provide creative ways for our younger parishioners to learn about God and grow in relationship with Jesus. Beginning in September each year, and ending the following June, children and teachers weave prayer, bible stories, art, and social concern into a wonderful experience of deepening faith and love.
Classes are on Sundays after Mass and Loaves & Fishes lunch, which is a free meal served in our Parish Hall. You are welcome to enroll your children at any point during the year. Please refer to the calendar and the registration form for further information.
Youth (Gr 6-8)
We invite all youth in grades 6-8 to our Middle School Youth group. Our customary routine is to attend Mass on Sundays at 10:30am and then gather for Loaves & Fishes lunch in the Parish Hall. Then we proceed to the Religious Education Building for enriching faith formation activities, lessons, games, check-in, and prayer.
Our goal is to deepen the participant’s relationship with Jesus and continue the process of forming them as disciples within the church and the world, in conformance with the standards of the Archdiocese of Seattle. For further information we encourage you to visit our class schedule and the registration form, or stop by our class to have a look. We are located in the Religious Education building across from the front door of the church, at the end of the hall to your left.
Youth (Gr 9-12)
Having a group of friends at church with whom to share the high school years is a wonderful blessing and support. Here at St. Olaf we welcome students from the following area high schools: North Kitsap, Kingston, Central Kitsap, Klahowya Secondary School, and Bainbridge Island. We meet on Sundays after Mass and Loaves & Fishes lunch, in the lower floor of the Gallagher Building (which is located at the end of the parking lot).
In addition to providing peer support and check-in with classes and sports and social life, we explore in greater depth the major themes of our Catholic tradition. So often, during the hectic high school years, our youth need a place to rest and connect with each other in an atmosphere free from further burdens. We invite all parents and high school youth to stop by for a visit – please use the door to the left side as you approach the building, and come down the stairs. You’ll find us gathered by the kitchen, catching up with each other and preparing for the subject of the day. For further information about the schedule, please visit here.
Congratulations to you and your family as you anticipate sharing this joyous and gentle sacrament with your children.
To prepare, we invite you to attend a Baptism Preparation Class. The schedule is listed in the Sacramental Preparation Calendar.
All classes are taught at 7:00pm, in the Gallagher Building (at the end of the parking lot).
First Reconciliation / First Communion
Each springtime we look forward to welcoming our parish children into the great “bread fellowship” with Jesus, who becomes food for our journey and food leading into everlasting life. It’s always a special time, filled with family joy and hope.
To prepare, children come to Loaves & Fishes and Religious Education classes on Sundays throughout the school year. On certain Sundays, children to receive First Holy Communion attend a separate class, along with their parents. The schedule is listed in the Sacramental Preparation Calendar.
Registration forms can be mailed to, or dropped off at, the parish.
Each year we celebrate the powerful Sacrament of Confirmation with our high school students and any adults for whom the right time has come.
To prepare, high school students attend a series of classes throughout the year. Classes are in the downstairs of the Gallagher Building. (The retreats are on Saturdays.) The schedule is listed in the Sacramental Preparation Calendar.
Registration forms can be mailed to, or dropped off at, the parish.
We ask any adults wishing to be confirmed to please call Michelle Charmante at (360) 621-4390. Preparations follow a tailored approach to meet the specific needs of each person.
Congratulations on your engagement to be married! We look forward to assisting you as you continue in this joyful period of transition and growth.
Marriage preparation classes are offered on weekday evenings at 7:00pm throughout the school year. The location for the classes is the Gallagher Building at the end of the parking lot. The schedule is listed in the Sacramental Preparation Calendar.
The classes cover a wide range of topics, and couples are welcome to begin attending at any point during the year. As a special note, please know that you are welcome to participate in these classes even if you are not planning to be married at St. Olaf Church or even in the Catholic Church at all.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
We offer a special ministry called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults to those desiring to explore entering the Catholic Church and the life of the sacraments. Anyone interested is welcome to begin RCIA classes at any point during the year.
For families desiring baptism for children over age 7, we offer an age-appropriate version of the RCIA on Sundays, in conjunction with our other children’s and youth ministries. On the day of their baptism, children in this program also receive the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. For the baptism of children under age 7, please refer to the section above to learn more about infant and child baptism.
Ordination & Religious Life
We encourage everyone to consider the possibility that God might be calling them to be a priest or deacon, or a religious sister or brother. Please visit the Vocations website created by the Archdiocese of Seattle to begin reflecting on the wonderful question “To What is God Calling Me?”
